Lessons at The Piano Barn
Observation
Once we've discussed lessons and you're fairly sure you want to go ahead, you and your child will first of all observe lessons. This way you can get a much better understanding of how we do things, and be able to make a fully informed decision about committing to lessons. You'll even be learning, (free of charge) and should continue with observation for as long as possible after starting lessons too.
Listening
This is a key element of learning the piano. Listen to the Suzuki book 1 recordings daily (several times) to make sure the music you're learning is well and truly embedded in your (and your child's) aural memory. Keep on listening daily as you progress, to the wider Suzuki repertoire, and a variety of other music.
Parent lessons
You'll begin 1-2-1 lessons before your child does. You'll be supervising their daily practice once they start, so you need to understand and be able to do what they are doing. The minimum period for parent lessons is one full term, but you can continue for as long as you wish.
Group lessons
When your child starts lessons they'll have weekly 1-2-1 lessons and regular group lessons (Acorns). Depending on their age and stage they might start group fairly soon and wait a while for 1-2-1, or potentially start the 2 things close together.
The practicing parent
For consistency (a key route to success) there should be one main practicing parent who comes to all the lessons, knows what is required at home to prepare for the next lesson, and supervises practice everyday.
Daily habit
This is crucial. Daily listening and daily practicing. Some days might be less than others, but to keep moving forwards don't miss days out.

What will it cost
1-2-1 lessons are based on £40 per hour and group lessons are usually £8 a time. There are no refunds for absence from group lessons.
I can invoice you half-termly, or (once your lesson routine is settled) you can pay regular monthly instalments. As an example, when your child is having 30 minutes 1-2-1 plus a group lesson every week and you're having 30 minutes 1-2-1 as well you'd pay £144 per month.
I ask for at least 24 hours' notice of cancellation and then I'll credit your account to take the lesson another time. There are no credits or refunds for cancellation with less than 24 hours' notice.
